Anthropic Mythos August Bet Fades to 32¢ With Hours Left on the Clock
Anthropic's Mythos August 31 release market sits at 32¢ YES with hours left. No launch signal, thin volume, and a 4¢ overnight drop point toward NO at 68¢.
TL;DR - YES shares on an August 31 Mythos model release traded at 32¢ as of 10:43 UTC, down 4¢ overnight. - No Anthropic announcement, leak, or timing signal has surfaced to justify a late rally. - The market's prior confidence in a September Mythos release collapsed from 74¢ to 24¢ earlier this month after Anthropic's Risk Report surfaced internal-only Model 2. - With roughly 13 hours left in the calendar window (Eastern Time), the smart-money lean is heavily toward NO at 68¢.
The Anthropic Mythos August bet is in its final hours, and the market has already rendered a working verdict. At 32¢ YES, traders are not exactly holding their breath.
What the Market Says
The Polymarket contract asking "Will the next Mythos-Class model be released on August 31, 2026?" opened this morning with YES at 32¢ and NO at 68¢, captured at 10:43 UTC on August 31. The 24-hour volume stands at $1,963 — active enough to be directionally meaningful, modest enough to confirm this is not a high-conviction battleground. The overnight drift was 4¢ away from YES, meaning traders who held positions into the final day were moving toward the exit, not the entrance.
That is not a sign of a market pricing in a surprise.
For context, this publication previously tracked the September 30 Mythos window, where YES traded as high as 74¢ on August 18 and 60¢ as recently as August 23. That confidence evaporated after Anthropic's internal Risk Report surfaced details about a Model 2 with no external release plan attached. The September market repriced to 24¢ YES on August 20 — a 50-cent swing in two days — and the chill has never fully lifted. The August 31 market inherited that skepticism as a baseline.
In other words, the market did not wake up pessimistic on August 31. It arrived pessimistic weeks ago and has been waiting for a catalyst that has not materialized.
The Case
Anthropic's public output over the past week tells a clear story about where the company's attention is focused, and it is not on model launches.
On August 27, Anthropic published its Model Hardware Standard research preview — a detailed infrastructure framework governing how AI agents interact with lab equipment and manufacturing hardware. Significant work. Genuinely interesting policy territory. Emphatically not a new Mythos model.
The day after, August 28, Anthropic expanded scientific access capabilities. Again: infrastructure and access, not frontier capability announcements.
The last confirmed Mythos-class release was Mythos 5, which became publicly available on July 1, 2026, after the U.S. government approved lifting export controls for qualifying domestic organizations. That model remains the reference point for the contract's resolution. The market is waiting for the next Mythos-class model — a successor that, as of press time, has not been named, previewed, or hinted at through any credible channel.
Meanwhile, Claude Opus 5, released July 24, 2026, continues to serve as Anthropic's deployed frontier model for general use. There is no scheduling ambiguity here that a surprise launch would resolve; Anthropic's lineup is in reasonable order. A new Mythos-class announcement would be additive, not corrective.
The mechanics of resolution matter here: the contract settles on whether Anthropic makes a new Mythos-class model available to the general public before midnight Eastern Time on August 31. That is approximately 13 hours from the capture timestamp. Anthropic would need to announce, deploy, and open access — all in a single business afternoon, on a Sunday, with zero pre-release signal visible in any public channel. The sequence is not impossible. It is simply not how Anthropic has operated its major releases.
The 68¢ NO price is doing exactly what it should: pricing a low-probability event fairly without overcorrecting to certainty. There is no fundamental reason to expect a release today. But the market is correctly declining to price the probability at zero.
Risks
The honest case for YES is shorter than the NO case, but it deserves to be stated plainly.
Anthropic could announce a Mythos-class model in the closing hours before midnight ET. Weekend announcements occasionally serve a media strategy purpose — the news cycle is quieter, and a surprise drop can generate disproportionate coverage. The Model Hardware Standard rollout on August 27 positioned Anthropic as a company actively expanding its deployment surface; a follow-on capability announcement in the same week would not be incoherent.
There is also a pattern worth noting: the September Mythos market traded at 60¢ YES as recently as August 23, suggesting that traders broadly believe a new Mythos-class model is coming in the near term. The question is not whether it exists. The question is whether August 31 is the day. If Anthropic has been staging a release and today is the window they chose, the market at 32¢ YES would represent significant underpricing — and late movers would clean up.
Finally, the relatively thin $1,963 volume means this market could reprice fast on a single credible signal. A tweet, a changelog entry, an API update — any of these could move YES 20 cents in minutes. The NO position at 68¢ is correct on current information. It is not protected against a last-hour development that current information does not anticipate.
That caveat noted: there is no such development visible right now. The 32¢ YES price reflects an honest read of what is actually known.
